Mazes and Monsters Maps

I previously uploaded the movie prop map for the actual Forbidden Mazes of the Jinnorak scenario depicted in the 80's "Bad D&D" film Mazes and Monsters.

"Jinnorak" is the actual spelling of the Mazes and the mutated people in Rona Jaffe's novel of the same name. However, I will not be changing my blog name or campaign maps and keys to reflect this!

Now you have the other movie map that was originally Pardeux the Holy Man's map of the Two Towers and surrounding city.

I do not have the artistic ability to recreate that map as depicted in the film so I have instead created a massive dungeon complex based on the cleric's renderings. My map is a very accurate reproduction of his--an exact copy in most respects.

I have included a blank image for your use as well as a color coded keyed image giving you some idea of how to stock and populate the dungeon. I have also prefaced the two maps with the upper level Maze that is the entrance level to the Undercity--the hidden stair beyond the secret door in the lower portion of the map is the way to this horrible place....

Keep in mind that in my vision of the Forbidden mazes, the maps you are looking at were once the streets and thoroughfares of an above ground city that was buried by the winds of time after the cataclysm that destroyed the Jinnorak civilization.

This was their chief city in their ancestral homeland on a barren stretch of shore called the Lonely Coast. So to the world above, the Undercity appears to be only a wasteland of barren hills and gnarled trees.

The ancient evil of the Jinnorak reawakened at some point and the city ways were excavated to become a dark abode for the Vampire Lords, those Jinnorak who achieved undead status, and the lesser, mutated strain of bestial troglodytes of the normal Jinnorak who descended into savage neanderthals in the millenia after their culture fell.

So vast was the underground warren that  other monsters and beings came to dwell here--even good monsters who were placed as wards by the powers of good to contain the evil of the Jinnorak ruins.

As a result, there are factions of creatures within the Mazes, and even places of refuge. but the Vampire Lords are the most fearsome of the evil creatures, though only three remain.

So, the venture into the Undercity of the Jinnorak is likely to be long and perilous.

Hope you can put them to good use!

  1. Funny - I was going to do a screen cap of the portions and weld them together in PS but you've done the work, already!

    Cool.
